Atchison, Kan. – The CMU Men's Basketball team fell to the Benedictine Ravens 86-70 Saturday afternoon in Atchison, Kansas.
With the loss, the Eagles move to 14-8 overall and 8-6 in Heart of America Athletic Conference play, while the Ravens improve to 12-10 on the season and 8-6 in conference action.
Benedictine jumped out to a 47-28 advantage at the break, using a strong offensive showing to control the tempo.
Central Methodist responded with an improved second half, scoring 42 points after intermission, but was unable to overcome the deficit as Benedictine matched the effort with 39 points of its own. The Eagles showed resilience down the stretch but ultimately couldn't close the gap.
Tyson Oghene led CMU offensively, pouring in 22 points, with 12 coming from beyond the arc.
Senior Tom Sowoolu added 16 points, shooting six-of-eight from the floor in his 15 minutes off the bench.
Austin Prater followed with 15 points, while also tallying five rebounds, two assists, and a steal, while Isaiah Bonaparte rounded out the Eagles in double figures with 11 points.
Rebounding and efficiency proved decisive, as the Ravens held a 31-23 edge on the glass and shot 58.9 percent from the floor, compared to the Eagles' 43.6 percent.
CMU returns to action on Wednesday, Feb. 4, when the Eagles travel to Marshall, Missouri to take on the Missouri Valley Vikings. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
