Eagles Cruise Past Wildcats Wednesday Night

Fayette, Mo. - The Central Methodist Men's Basketball team picked up a dominant 87-63 victory over Culver-Stockton College Wednesday night inside Puckett Field House. 

Central improves its overall record to 14-13 and 11-12 in the Heart of America, while CS-C drops to 5-22 and 5-18 in conference action.

The Wildcats started the game off hot from three-point range, shooting a perfect three-for-three from distance and taking a double-digit lead over Central. 

CMU began to settle down, as Kevin James and Brandon Tchouya knocked down back-to-back triples to cut the deficit to 12-8.

Midway through the first half, Central took its first lead of the night at 17-16, courtesy of a two-point basket by Destin Jenkins. Moments later, Jenkins would knock down a three keep Central's momentum moving forward. 

Both teams traded baskets for the last 10 minutes with the Wildcats still hanging on. Central would ultimately take a 40-35 lead at the halftime break. 

Culver scored the opening points of the seond half to cut Central's lead to three. A minute later, Marcus Anthony responded with a two-point basket himself to jump started Central's second half offense. 

With 14:27 to go, the Eagles extended their lead to double-digits. Anthony then hit a splash three with over 11 minutes remaining to give CMU a 59-44 advantage.

Central would go on to secure a 24-point win. 

The Eagles were hot from all areas of the floor, shooting 48.6 percent from the field and 42.9 percent from three. 

Anthony and Tchouya both led their team with 19 points while Jenkins had 17 off the bench.

Tong led CMU with eight boards and chipped in six points with one assist.

The Eagles will return to action Saturday, Feb. 22, playing host to Mount Mercy on senior day. Tip-off is set for 2:00 p.m. from Puckett Fieldhouse.
