Fayette, Mo. - In a game that had plenty of excitement, the Central Methodist men's basketball team fell in overtime by the slimmest of margins to Benedictine College, 79-78, Wednesday night inside Puckett Field House.
Central now stands at 4-3 and 1-2 in the Heart of America, while BC improves to 2-4 and 1-1 in conference action.
Both teams were evenly matched in the first 20 minutes of play, as Benedictine held just a three-point lead at the halftime break.
The second twenty minutes continued to be a battle between both teams. With just six seconds left and the Eagles leading 70-69, senior foward Bol Tong made arguably the biggest basket of the night with a two-point make to put Central up three.
But with two second left, Benedictine's Jack Vanderwoude converted a 40 foot three-point basket at the buzzer to tie the game and send it into overtime.
BC just edged CMU scoring wise in the five-minute overtime period, 7-6, coming away with a narrow one point win.
Destin Jenkins led the way offensively for CMU, scoring 24 points and going five-for-seven from three-point range. He also added eight rebounds, six assists, a steal, and a block.
Mario Fantina scored 17 points which included five three-point baskets. Super senior guard Marcus Anthony also landed in double figures, as the Jefferson City native tallied 16 points on 50 percent shooting from the floor.
Kai Jordan dished out a game-high 10 assists while adding four points, four rebounds, and a steal.
Both teams were dead even on the glass, as each team pulled down 34 rebounds.
CMU heads back out on the road for a Saturday afternoon matchup against Grand View University Saturday, Nov. 23 at 4:00 p.m. in Des Moines, Iowa.
