Smith Drops Career-High 39 as Central Cruises Past William Penn

Fayette, Mo. - Behind a career-high 39 points from TreVon Smith, the Central Methodist Men's Basketball team earned a 103-90 victory over William Penn University Wednesday night inside Puckett Field House. 

The Eagles remain perfect at home with a 14-0 record. Overall, Central stands at 18-5 and 14-5 in the Heart of America. William Penn falls to 5-19 and 4-16 in conference play. 

It was a career-day for Smith, who scored 39 points while shooting 56.5 percent from the field and eight-of-10 from the charity stripe. The native of Campbellsville, Kentucky also knocked down five three point baskets to lead all sharp shooters. In addition, his presence was felt down low in the block, as he grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds to secure a double-double. 

Peter Turay tallied 18 points to go along with eight rebounds and a block. Trey Sinegal scored 16 points and matched Turay with eight rebounds.

Isaiah May rounded out Central's double-digit scorers with 12 points while also grabbing nine rebounds to nearly secure a double-double. In addition, May recorded two blocks, two assists, and a steal in the win. 

Everett Stubblefield almost cracked double figures with nine points and recorded three steals and three assists. 

CMU finished the evening shooting 41.7 percent from three and 73.5 percent from the free throw line. The Eagles held a slight advantage on the glass, grabbing 42 rebounds compared to 40 for the Statesmen. 

Central remains at home for a key Heart matchup against Graceland University Saturday, Feb. 10 at 4:00 p.m. inside Puckett Field House. CMU will honor also honor its 2023-24 senior class as part of senior day festivities. 

The Eagles are currently in a tie for third place in the conference regular-season standings with the Yellowjackets.
