CMU Overcomes First Half Deficit to Defeat Mustangs

CMU Overcomes First Half Deficit to Defeat Mustangs

Fayette, Mo. - The Central Methodist Men's Basketball team overcame a first half deficit to defeat the Mount Mercy Mustangs, 90-81, Tuesday night inside Puckett Field House.

The Eagles improve to 16-2 and 12-2 in the Heart of America, while keeping their perfect home record intact at 12-0. Mount Mercy falls to 6-13 and 5-10 in conference play.

Central found themselves trailing 48-44 at the halftime break. The Eagles' defense would tighten up in the second half, as CMU held MMU to just 33 points in the last 20 minutes.

Trey Sinegal finished the evening with 21 points on 50 percent shooting from the floor, which included five three-point baskets, to lead the offense.

Everett Stubblefield tallied 17 points, four assists, three rebounds, and a steal. TreVon Smith nearly recorded a double double with 14 points and eight rebounds.

Peter Turay secured a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds, while Isaiah May scored nine points and matched Turay with 10 rebounds.

Both teams were nearly identical shooting from the floor, with Central converting on 45 percent of their attempts compared to 44.9 percent for Mount Mercy.

CMU capitalized on their trips to the charity stripe, knocking down 25-of-28 attempts for 89.3 percent. MMU made all of their free throws, but only made 10 trips to the line.

The Eagles outrebounded Mount Mercy by double digits, 45-28, which included 14 rebounds on the offensive glass.

Central will next face Benedictine College Wednesday, Jan. 24 at 7:30 p.m. in Atchison, Kansas.

The Eagles won the first matchup between the two teams, 90-58, back on Nov. 29 in Fayette.
