Big First Half Propels Central Past Missouri Valley

Fayette, Mo. - The Central Methodist Men's Basketball team opened the New Year with a 95-84 victory over Missouri Valley College Wednesday night inside Puckett Field House.

CMU improves to 11-2 and 7-2 in the Heart of America, while the Vikings fall to 5-8 and 4-5 in conference action.

Central got contributions from up and down the lineup, as five different Eagles landed in double figures including a pair of double doubles.

Trey Sinegal picked up right where he left off in 2023 with a 21-point outing on 66 percent shooting from the field which included a pair of threes.

Isaiah May tallied 18 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to earn a double-double. TreVon Smith followed with 15 points and eight rebounds.

Peter Turay had a monster game, scoring 14 points and dominating the glass with 17 rebounds in the win, joining May in the double-double club.

Trent Lyles rounded out the double-digit scorers for Central with 11 points in 21 minutes off the bench.

The Eagles made the most of their trips to the free throw line, knocking down 75 percent of their attempts. In addition, Central dominated the glass, grabbing 57 rebounds compared to 31 for the Vikings.

CMU held a slight advantage in shooting from the floor, converting 46.9 percent while the Vikings knocked down 43 percent of their attempts.

Missouri Valley's defense sped up CMU's offense, forcing 21 turnovers on 13 steals.

With the victory Wednesday night, the Eagles have now won six of their last seven contests, and currently sit in third in the overall Heart of America standings.

Central will remain at home to host Park University Saturday, Jan. 6 at 4:00 p.m. inside Puckett Field House.
