Stubblefield Drops Career High 34 Points as Central Knocks off Baker

Baldwin City, Kan. - Behind a career-high 34 points from sophomore guard Everett Stubblefield, the Central Methodist Men's Basketball team earned a decisive 93-82 road victory over Baker University Saturday afternoon in Baldwin City, Kan.

Central now stands at 10-9 and 7-6 in the Heart, while the Wildcats fall to 14-5 and 9-4 in conference play.

The Eagles had one of their best shooting halves of the season in the first, knocking down 54.5-percent of their attempts from the floor. Central also shot a cool 56.3-percent from beyond the arc, coming away with nine three-point makes.

Holding a 53-40 coming out of the locker room at the halftime break, Central pushed its lead to as many as 24 points in the second to solidify a double-digit victory.

In addition to his 34 points, Stubblefield also recorded five rebounds, two assists, and two steals in the win. He shot 13-of-18 from the floor, converted on three three-point baskets, and knocked down five free throws.

Junior guard Isaiah May also had a career night, scoring 26 points in 35 minutes of action. He led all shooters with four three-point baskets and also tallied six rebounds, a steal, and a block.

Quinan Rieves rounded out the double-digit scorers with 18 points. He shot perfect from the floor (four-of-four), beyond the arc (three-of-three), and from the charity stripe (seven-of-seven).

As a team, Central was extremely efficient from the charity stripe, converting 18-of-21 free throw attempts. The difference in the game proved to be from long range, as CMU racked up 11 three-point baskets compared to just three for the Wildcats.

The Eagles held a slight advantage on the glass, grabbing 30 rebounds compared to 28 for Baker.

Central returns home to host Benedictine College Wednesday, Jan. 25 at 7:30 p.m. inside Puckett Field House.
