Big Second Half Leads Evangel Past Eagles

Big Second Half Leads Evangel Past Eagles

Springfield, Mo. - Despite holding a one-point lead at the halftime break, the Central Methodist Men's Basketball team fell to the Evangel Valor 99-84 Monday night in Springfield, Mo.

CMU now stands at 8-9 and 5-6 in the Heart, while Evangel improves to 15-3 and 10-2 in conference play.

The Eagles hung with the Valor in the first half, shooting over 50-percent from the floor and knocking down five three-point baskets. Central would hold a 42-41 lead at halftime, before Evangel's sharpshooters came alive in the second.

EU shot 63.3-percent from the floor in the second half, compared to just 39.5-percent for Central. The efficient shooting night for the Valor led to a 15-point victory.

CMU saw four Eagles reach double-digit scoring, led by James Jordan who tallied 21 points. Quinan Rieves and Jaquan Morris each added 18 points while Everett Stubblefield tallied 11.

Evangel just held a slight advantage on the boards, grabbing 32 rebounds compared to 31 for the Eagles. Rieves grabbed a game-high nine rebounds to nearly record a double-double.

Central returns home to host MidAmerica Nazarene University Thursday, Jan. 19 at 7:30 p.m. inside Puckett Field House for alumni night.
