Fayette, Mo. - The Central Methodist Men's Basketball team snapped a three-game losing skid with a narrow victory over Park University, 78-75, Wednesday night inside Puckett Field House.
The Eagles improve to 8-7 and 5-4 in the Heart, while the Pirates fall to 5-10 and 3-7 in conference play.
Tied at 74-74 with less than two minutes left, sophomore guard Everett Stubblefield knocked down a jumper to put Central ahead by two. Coming out of a timeout, the Pirates drew an Eagle found and had an opportunity to tie the game at the charity stripe.
Park converted only one-of-two free throws as Central held just a one-point lead. Both teams made stops on the ensuiing posseesions, giving CMU possession with 0:43 remaining.
The Eagles wound down the clock and, with 15 seconds remaining, junior guard Isaiah May knocked down a jumper to push Central's lead to three. Central would stop Park's next stop and were able to run out the clock to earn the three-point victory.
Stubblefield and James Jordan carried the offense, as both notched 20-point performances. Stubblefield tallied 24 points while Jordan recorded 23. Jordan also finished the evening with 12 rebounds to earn a double-double.
Stubblefield added four assists, two steals, a block, and shot 10-of-19 from the floor in 34 minutes of action.
May nearly cracked double figures with nine points while Jaquan Morris added seven points off the bench.
Both sides were nearly even in shooting from the floor and from beyond the arc. However, Park made 23 trips to the free throw line compared to just nine for CMU.
Central and Park grabbed 37 rebounds and picked up three blocks each.
CMU will next face Missouri Valley College Saturday, Jan. 14 at 4:00 p.m. in Marshall, Mo.
