Fayette, Mo. - Despite overcoming a slow first half start, the (RV) Central Methodist men's basketball program fell to Baker University 65-58 Wednesday night inside Puckett Field House.
The Eagles fall to 14-7 and 5-5 in the Heart, while Baker improves to 8-9 and 4-5 in conference play.
Baskets were hard to come by for the opening 13 minutes of the first half for Central, as the Eagles found themselves trailing BU, 28-8. CMU's offense ultimately found its rhythm, as they closed the half on a 17-2 run to trim the deficit to 30-25 at halftime.
The Eagles continued to battle in the second half and took a 38-36 lead after a made jumper by Isaiah May at the 14:56 mark. However, Baker responded with 10 straight points to go back out in front. Central was able to trim the deficit to four, but never got any closer, as the Wildcats went on to earn a seven-point victory.
Fode Camara led Central's offense with 15 points and 11 rebounds in 28 minutes off the bench. He also added three assists, two steals and a block.
Sophomore guard Jonathan Brown matched Camara with 15 points paired with four rebounds, an assist and a steal. Jayden McGrew was the final Eagle to reach double figures with 14 points on seven-of-12 shooting from the floor. Trent Lyles nearly cracked double figures with nine points in 29 minutes of action.
CMU struggled from the field, shooting just 32.8-percent, while Baker converted 41.8-percent of its field goal attempts. Despite their shooting struggles, Central controlled the glass from start to finish, grabbing 47 rebounds compared to 32 for the Wildcats.
The Eagles head back out on the road for a matchup against Clarke University Saturday, Jan. 22 at 2:00 p.m. in Dubuque, Iowa.
