Four Eagles reach double figures in win at Missouri Valley

Marshall, Mo. - Behind four double-digit scoring performances, the Central Methodist men's basketball program picked up a 79-72 road victory over rival Missouri Valley College Saturday afternoon in Marshall, Mo. 

Central improves its overall record to 11-2 and 3-1 in conference play, while the Vikings fall to 9-3 and 1-2 in the Heart. 

Trailing by five points with a little over five minutes remaining in the second, Central went on a 6-0 scoring run to take a 65-64 lead. The Vikings evened the score at 66-66 after a made basket by MVC and a free throw make for Central with 2:58 remaining. 

CMU scored five-straight points on buckets from Tim Cameron and Fode Camara to take a 71-66 lead at the 1:05 mark. Missouri Valley trimmed the lead to as few as three on two different ocassions, but the Eagles converted their final six free-throw attempts in the closing moments to secure the seven-point victory. 

Camara led the offense with 19 points on an outstanding 80-percent shooting from the field, including three-of-four from the charity stripe. He also added five rebounds, two assists, and two steals. 

Cameron followed with 17 points on eight-of-11 shooting from the floor. Jonathan Brown tallied 12 points and dished out a team-high six assists. Thomas Sowoolu rounded out the double-digit scorers for Central with 10 points and a team leading 12 rebounds, good enough to earn a double-double. 

Isaiah May filled the stat sheet with nine points, six rebounds, three assists, and three steals in 38 minutes of action. 

CMU was efficient from the field, converting 30-of-59 field goal attempts for 50.8-percent. As a team, Central dished out 20 assists on its 30 made field goal attempts. The Eagles also made 31 trips to the free throw line compared to just seven attempts for Missouri Valley. 

The Eagles won the rebounding battle on the glass, grabbing 38 rebounds compared to 33 for the Vikings. 

Central is next set to face Rochester in a non-conference contest Friday, Dec. 17 at 5:00 p.m. in Livonia, Mich.
