Kansas City, Mo. - The Central Methodist men's basketball program won its third-straight ball game to start the 2021-22 season, as they defeated former Heart foe Avila University by a score of 83-59 Tuesday night in Kansas City, Mo.
Avila jumped out to a quick 13-4 lead in the first eight minutes of play. However, Central responded with a 36-14 run in the final 12 minutes of the first, taking a 40-27 lead into the locker room.
Avila would open the second half with a 13-3 run to trim Central's lead to three. The Eagles' offense exploded for 17-straight unanswered points in the next six minutes to stretch its lead back to double-digits. CMU never looked back, ultimately claiming a 24-point victory.
Tim Cameron led the offense with 24 points on 10-of-19 shooting from the field including three three-point baskets. He also tallied 13 rebounds to earn a double-double, and also added four assists, three steals, and two blocks.
Fellow teammate Fode Camara was also an offensive power, recording 10 points and grabbing a game-high 18 rebounds, joining Cameron in the double-double club.
Jonathan Brown poured in 19 points along with six rebounds and four assists. Jackson Andrews nearly reached double figures with nine points, all coming from beyond the arc.
Overall, Central shot 47.1-percent from the field and 45.8-percent from the three-point line. CMU won the battle of the boards, grabbing 57 rebounds compared to just 29 for Avila.
The Eagles will next face Arkansas Baptist College on Friday, Nov. 12 at 4:45 p.m. in Springfield, Mo.
