CANTON, Mo. – The Central Methodist University men's basketball team got back onto the winning track with a 90-82 victory over Culver-Stockton on Saturday afternoon.
The Eagles entered halftime trailing by seven points, but a second half surge pushed them back on top to close out the victory.
The win moves Central to 4-10 overall (3-5 Heart) while Culver falls to 3-10 on the season (2-7 Heart).
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Culver put together a 9-2 run in the final two minutes of the first half, giving them a 46-39 advantage at the half.
- Central regained the lead with 11:01 left to play after a shot from long range by Trae Meny.
- The Eagles pushed the lead to double digits with a 14-4 run, led with 12 points from James Byrd II.
- Near perfect free throw shooting helped CMU secure thee lead down the stretch as the team shot 13-for-14 from the charity stripe in the second half.
- As a team, Central shot 49% from the floor, sinking 11 (40%) from beyond the arc. Thirty-six points of offensive production off the bench helped push the squad to victory.
- The Eagles won the rebounding battle at a 34-26 margin, securing 23 on the defensive end and 11 on the offensive end.
NOTABLE PERFORMERS:
- Byrd led all scorers on the night with 19 points off the bench. He finished 8-for-13 from the field while also tacking on two rebounds and two assists.
- Josh Robinson – 16 points, 8 assists
- Kyle McDermed – 16 points
- Seth Stegeman – 11 points, 3-for-6 from the three-point line
- Rijnard Hartman – 10 rebounds, 5 points
