Fayette, Mo. – The Heart of America Athletic Conference announced their weekly Player of the Week award winners on Monday afternoon; sponsored by Hillyard. Central Methodist senior guard Ron Lee (SR/Oak Park, Calif.) was named The Heart's men's basketball player of the week for his performances last week against Benedictine College and Avila University.
"This was just another good week turned in by Ron (Lee)," said CMU head men's basketball coach Jeff Sherman. "He has been very consistent throughout the season and has played at a very high level."
Sherman continued, "What made this week special, was scoring his 1,000th point in his CMU career. He did this in 51 games; faster than anyone else in our history. He became the 35th player to reach the 1,000-point club.
Ron Lee and the Eagles faced some stiff competition to begin the week, as CMU hosted Benedictine College; who are receiving votes in the latest NAIA Coaches' Top 25 Poll. Central would drop the game by just five points, but Ron Lee led the Eagles with 26 points on 8-of-16 shooting. He also finished with three steals, two rebounds, and two assists.
This past Saturday, Lee went off in a blowout victory over Avila University. Lee scored 37 points in 33 minutes of action. His 11th point of the game, notched his 1,000th point in his short CMU career. Lee also finished the game with six assists, four rebounds, and three steals. He continues to lead The Heart in scoring, with 22.7 points per game.
The Eagles return to action this (Monday) evening in Iowa against Mount Mercy University. The 13th ranked women will get things started at 5:30pm, with the men's game to follow at 7:30pm.
