No. 1 Central rolls past No. 10 Wildcats, 4-1

No. 1 Central rolls past No. 10 Wildcats, 4-1

Boonville, Mo. - The No. 1 Central Methodist men's soccer team took down its second straight-ranked opponent, defeating No. 10 Baker University 4-1 Saturday night at Missouri Soccer Park in Boonville, Mo.

With the win, the Eagles keep their perfect record intact at 10-0 and 7-0 in the Heart. The Wildcats fall to 8-5 and 4-3 in conference play.

Central jumped out in front in the 20th minute of play when Basil Erne sent a cross into the box and found the foot of Jesse Bank. Bank then slipped the ball into the back of the net off a deflection, scoring his second goal of 2021.

Not long after, Central's offense was on the attack once again. After the Baker goalkeeper came off his line, Theo Klein took advantage of the miscue and sent a strike from 30 yards out to give Central a 2-0 lead just 21 minutes into the match.

The Eagle's third goal came just before halftime, as Christian Sanchez scored off the assist from Billy Nzojyibwami. CMU would take a 3-0 lead into the locker room.

Klein scored his second goal of the match in the 57th minute of play to extend Central's lead to 4-0. Despite the Wildcats scoring in the 59th minute, CMU held Baker out of goal for the rest of the match, going on to earn a convincing 4-1 win.

The Eagles finished the evening with 16 shots including seven on goal, compared to 11 shots and three on goal for Baker. Sanchez led all players with four shots, including one on goal and the third goal of the match just before halftime. Niels Zachriat and Klein each tallied three shots while Klein collected a brace.

Stefano Camerlengo played 32 minutes in between the posts before Aaron Hoffman entered the match and played the final 58 minutes.

The Eagles host Grand View University in a rescheduled match Wednesday, Oct. 13 at 5:00 p.m. at Davis Field.
