Eagles Fall to No. 3 Grand View in Heart Quarterfinals

Eagles Fall to No. 3 Grand View in Heart Quarterfinals

Des Moines, Iowa - The Central Methodist Men's Soccer team earned the No. 6 seed in the Heart of America Conference Tournament, which began Tuesday at various sites around the conference.

Central drew No. 3-seeded Grand View, a team that they previously beat in early October at Davis Field.

The Eagles were unable to recreate that success from the regular season, falling to the Vikings by a final score of 4-2 in Des Moines.

CMU struck first with a goal from Robin Vandewalle off the assist from Antoine Hurel in the fourth minute of play to take a 1-0 lead. GVU responded with two goals in the 10th and 45th minutes to take a 2-1 lead into the locker room at the halftime break.

Central's Koen Schimmel tied the match in the 64th minute and was assisted by Hurel.

Grand View had an answer, however, scoring in the 71st and 90th minutes to come away with a 4-2 win.

Both sides were nearly identical in shots taken, with Grand View holding a slight advantage at 13-12.

The Eagles will now wait to see if they have earned an at-large berth into this year's NAIA National Tournament. The field will be announced on Friday, Nov. 14, at 5:00 p.m. on the NAIA YouTube page.
