Des Moines, Iowa - The Central Methodist Women's Basketball team dropped a 57–44 decision to (RV) Grand View Saturday afternoon in Des Moines, Iowa.
Central now stands at 8-7 and 3-4 in the Heart of America, while Grand View improves to 11-5 and 8-0 in conference action.
The Eagles faced an early challenge, as Grand View opened the game with an 18–7 first-quarter lead. Central continued to battle in the second quarter but went into halftime trailing 35–17.
CMU showed resilience coming out of the locker room, turning in its strongest offensive quarter in the third. The Eagles scored 16 points in the period compared to 14 for the Vikings. Despite the push, Grand View maintained a double-digit lead heading into the fourth quarter.
The Eagles continued to compete defensively in the final period, holding the Vikings to just eight points. However, Central was unable to overcome the early deficit, as Grand View came away with a 13-point victory.
Asnate Gerke led CMU with 10 points and nine rebounds, narrowly missing a double-double. Maizen Williams added 10 points off the bench, while Kaelyn Johnson contributed nine points and five rebounds.
Central Methodist shot just 28.6 percent from the field and was limited to three-of-27 shooting from beyond the arc. Grand View held advantages in field goal percentage and rebounding, finishing the game at 40.7 percent shooting with 36 rebounds. The Eagles pulled down 27 rebounds.
CMU returns home to host Heart newcomer William Woods Wednesday, Jan. 7 at 5:30 p.m. inside Puckett Field House.
