Canton, Mo. - The Central Methodist Women's Basketball team picked up a 60-59 win over Culver-Stockton College in Canton, Missouri, Tuesday afternoon.
Central now stands at 6-3 and 3-1 in the Heart of America, while Culver falls to 4-4 and 1-3 in conference action.
CMU set the tone early, jumping out to a 17-7 lead after the opening quarter. However, a cold stretch in the second period allowed Culver-Stockton to claw its way back into the contest. The Wildcats carried that momentum into the second half, surging ahead 56-54 following a 10-0 run early into the fourth frame.
Back-to-back layups from Nautica Washington and Asnate Gerke halted the Wildcats' run and swung the lead back in Central's favor at 58-56. The Eagles held strong defensively down the stretch, protecting a one-point advantage over the final 1:35 to secure the road win.
Washington delivered a career-best performance, pouring in 29 points while adding five rebounds and three steals. Kaitlyn Patke also played a key role, contributing 15 points and five boards.
CS-C shot a higher percentage from the floor at 40 percent compared to CMU's 37.7 percent. Trips to the free throw line were scarce, as CMU shot eight-of-nine from the charity stripe and seven-of-10 for the Wildcats.
Central returns to Puckett Field House after the Thanksgiving break, hosting Missouri Valley Wednesday, Dec. 3 at 5:30 p.m.
