St. Louis, Mo. - The Central Methodist Women's Basketball team came away with a 90-66 win over the Oklahoma City Stars in their first game of the UHSP Classic Friday afternoon in St. Louis, Missouri.
Central improves to 2-0 on the early season, while the Stars drop to 1-1.
The Eagles jumped out to a 21-14 lead at the end of the first quarter, before taking a 38-31 lead into the locker room at the halftime break.
Central's big quarter came in the third, as they outscored the Stars 32-15. Despite the fourth quarter being evenly scored at 20-20, the third frame put Central well ahead, as the Eagles cruised to a 24-point win.
Kaelyn Johnson led all scorers with a career-high 22 points on seven-of-10 shooting from the floor, which included a game-high six threes.
Newcomer Maizen Williams followed with 17 points on 60 percent shooting. Tayla Robinson added 16 points, five rebounds, three steals, and two assists in 21 minutes off the bench.
Nautica Washington rounded out Central's double-digit scorers with 10 points. The sophomore from Columbia also dished out four assists and recorded two steals.
The duo of Kaitlyn Patke and Asnate Gerke each chipped in eight points, while Gerke matched Johnson and Mary Copeland with six rebounds.
As a team, Central shot just over 50 percent from the floor, 46.2 percent from three, and 66.7 percent from the free-throw line.
Both teams were even on the glass, as each grabbed 40 rebounds.
A notable stat line for the Eagles was ball movement, as Central assisted on 20 of its 33 made baskets.
CMU will conclude the tournament with a 3:00 p.m. matchup against Cumberland (Tenn.) Saturday, Nov. 1, in St. Louis.
