Fayette, Mo. - The Central Methodist Women's Basketball program's comeback fell short to Missouri Valley College Tuesday night inside Puckett Field House.
CMU fell to MVC by a final score of 72-63.
Central falls to 4-5 and 1-3 in the Heart of America, while the Vikings keep their perfect record intact at 8-0 and 5-0 in conference play.
The Eagles found themselves in a 20-4 hole after one quarter play, before dropping 26 second quarter points to trim Missouri Valley's lead to two at the halftime break.
MVC held Central to just 11 points in the third quarter to stretch its lead to nine entering the final quarter of play. The fourth quarter provided 44 total points between both teams, with Missouri Valley fending off a CMU comeback for the nine-point win.
Senior guard Sharay Trotter led CMU with 19 points on eight-of-15 shooting from the floor in addition to eight rebounds, three assists, three steals and a pair of blocks.
Sa'Mya Stevens followed with 18 points in 22 minutes off the bench. The sophomore converted on six-of-eight field goal attempts and also shot a perfect six-of-six from the charity stripe.
As a team, CMU held a slight advantage on MVC in shooting, converting 44 percent of their attempts compared to 41.4 percent for the Vikings.
However, Missouri Valley used its size to outrebound Central 44-25 on the glass.
The Eagles return to action against Southern Illinois University - Carbondale Monday, Dec. 2 at 11:00 a.m. in Carbondale, Ill.
