Fayette, Mo. - The Central Methodist Women's Basketball program used a big first quarter to earn a 69-57 win over Benedictine College Wednesday night inside Puckett Field House.
The Eagles improve to 4-3 and 2-2 in the Heart of America. Benedictine falls to 4-4 and 2-2 in conference action.
Central raced out to a 20-4 first quarter lead, before the Ravens scored six of the final eight points to make the first quarter score 22-10 in favor of the Eagles.
BC outscored CMU 18-8 in the second quarter, cutting Central's lead to 30-28 at the halftime break.
A 25-point third quarter for the Eagles pushed their lead to double-digits. Despite Benedictine outscoring CMU in the fourth, 20-14, the Eagles held on for a 12-point win.
Three different Eagles landed in double figures, led by Zutorya Cook who tallied 19 points. The junior guard also added eight rebounds, two steals and an assist.
Senior B'Aunce Carter had a monster game with 15 points and 12 rebounds for a double-double. In addition, Carter recorded three assists, three steals, and a pair of blocks.
Tynesha Parnell was the final Eagle to reach double figures with 15 points in 28 minutes off the bench. Sharay Trotter nearly tallied a double-double with nine points and 10 rebounds to go aong with four assists, two steals, and two blocks.
Both teams were nearly identical shooting from the field, as the Eagles shot 36.1-percent from the floor compared to 36.5-percent for Benedictine.
The difference in the game was the rebounds down in the post, as Central outrebounded the Ravens 53-32. Twenty five of Central's 53 rebounds came on the offensive glass.
CMU remains at home to host Peru State College Saturday, Dec. 2 at 2:00 p.m. inside Puckett Field House.
