Fayette, Mo. - The No. 2 Central Methodist Women's Basketball team clinched the Heart of America Regular Season Championship with a 94-51 victory over Baker University Wednesday night inside Puckett Field House.
The Eagles keep their perfect record intact at 26-0 and 20-0 in the Heart. Baker falls to 12-13 and 8-12 in conference play.
All five Eagles in the starting five landed in double figures. Reigning Heart Player of the Week Leah Johnson had another solid outing, leading the team with 20 points and 17 rebounds. She also dished out three assists, two steals, and two blocks.
Daryna Bachkarova added 18 points of which 12 came from beyond the three-point line. Zutorya Cook filled the stat sheet with 14 points, six assists, five steals, and two rebounds.
Jaicia Canady added 13 points and dished out a team-high seven assists. Leianya Massenat rounded out the double digit scorers for CMU with 11 points.
Freshman Taliyah Carter nearly reached double figures with nine points on four-of-five shooting from the floor.
As a team, Central shot over 54 percent from the floor and 40 percent from beyond the arc. The Eagles were extremely efficient with the ball, assisting on 22 made baskets.
CMU's defense held the Wildcats to just 28.8 percent shooting while forcing 20 Baker turnovers on 13 steals.
The Eagles will play their final regular season road contest against Park University Wednesday, Feb. 15 at 5:30 p.m. in Parkville, Mo.
