Lawrence, Kan. - Behind three 20-point scoring performances, the No. 4 Central Methodist women's basketball program opened the New Year with a 91-71 victory over Haskell University Monday afternoon in Lawrence, Kan.
With the win, the Eagles keep their perfect record intact at 12-0, while the Fightin' Indians fall to 7-12.
Sophomore guard Zutorya Cook led all scorers with 24 points on nine-of-14 shooting from the floor and 50-percent from beyond the arc. In addition, the native of Marietta, Ga. recorded six rebounds, two steals, and one assist.
Daryna Bachkarova tallied 20 points in 33 minutes of action. She nearly earned a double-double with eight rebounds. Bachkarova also recorded two blocks and two steals.
Leah Johnson rounded out the double-digit scoring for CMU with 20 points along with a game-high 15 rebounds, good enough for a double-double. Johnson and Jaicia Canady each recorded three steals while Canady dished out a team-high eight assists.
Junior guard Audrey Graham nearly cracked double figures with nine points in 19 minutes off the bench. All nine of Graham's points came from the three-point line.
Leianya Massenat added six points, while Canady and Natalia Shpegel chipped in five points apiece.
The Eagles did a majority of their damage from beyond the arc, knocking down 11 three-point baskets at 40.7-percent. Central also outrebounded Haskell 42-28, which included 18 rebounds on the offensive glass.
CMU returns to conference action with a matchup against Benedictine College Wednesday, Jan. 4 at 5:30 p.m. in Atchison, Kan.
