Fayette, Mo. - The No. 9 Central Methodist Women's Basketball program survived a late surge against No. 13 Sterling College Tuesday evening inside Puckett Field House.
The Eagles earned a 75-64 victory over the Warriors. Central improves its overall record to a perfect 4-0, while Sterling falls to 3-2.
The highlight for Central in the first quarter was a 15-0 run to open the game in the first three and a half minutes. CMU would outscore the Warriors 25-16 in the first frame.
Daryna Bachkarova led the offense with 22 points on seven-of-17 shooting including five three-point baskets. She nearly recorded a double-double, adding eight rebounds to her stat line.
Zutorya Cook also landed in double figures with 16 points in addition to five rebounds, three steals, and an assist. Jaicia Canady was the final Eagle to reach double-digit scoring, recording 13 points and dishing out a team-high seven assists along with six rebounds and two steals.
Sophomore forward Leah Johnson tallied eight points and grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds.
Overall, Cenral shot 40.3-percent from the field and a cool 33.3-percent from beyond the arc.
The Eagles won the battle of the boards, grabbing 45 rebounds compared to the Warriors 39. Central's defense also forced 22 turnovers on 11 steals.
CMU will begin conference action against the Graceland Yellowjackets Monday, Nov. 21 at 5:30 p.m. inside Puckett Field House.
