Kansas City, Mo. - The Central Methodist women's basketball duo of Arleighshya McElroy and Daryna Bachkarova were recognized as NAIA All-Americans by the national office Thursday morning.
The pair becomes just the 15th and 16th All-Americans in program history. McElroy was selected to the First Team while Bachkarova earned an Honorable Mention nod.
McElroy, a native of Dallas, Texas earned First Team honors after leading the Eagles in scoring with 19.5 points/game. She also averaged 5.9 rebounds and 4.1 assists/game.
For her efforts in the regular season, McElroy was named the Heart Player and Newcomer of the Year in addition to Heart First Team All-Conference honors. She was also named the Heart Player of the Week on two different occassions.
Altogether, McElroy tallied 14 20-plus point scoring performances including a career-high 43 points against Missouri Valley College on Dec. 11. She also recorded a triple-double against No. 11 Indiana Wesleyan back on Nov. 5.
McElroy finished her career in the NAIA National Tournament, landing on the All-Tournament team after averaging more than 20 points and five rebounds/game in the big dance.
Bachkarova earned Honorable Mention All-America honors for the first time in her career. The Minsk, Belarus native appeared in 32 games for Central, averaging 13.8 points and 4.5 rebounds/game.
She knocked down 31.7-percent of her three-point baskets and reached double figures in 25 games. Bachkarova was named the Heart Player of the Week on Nov. 22 after averaging 19.3 points and 6.7 rebounds in a three-game stretch.
Overall for her performance this season, she earned Heart First Team All-Conference honors for the second-straight season.
The Eagles finished the year with a 31-6 overall mark and their first appearance in the NAIA National semifinals since 1999.
