Fayette, Mo. - The No. 13 Central Methodist women's basketball team clinched the No. 1 seed in the Heart South Division with a convincing senior day victory over Missouri Valley College, 93-60 Saturday afternoon inside Puckett Field House.
With the win, the Eagle finish the regular season with a 25-4 overall record and a 15-4 mark in conference play. The Vikings now stand at 17-11 and 11-8 in the Heart.
Prior to tip-off the Eagles recongized their 2021-22 senior class which included Myah Salas, Makaiah Douglas, Katelyn Streeter, Vanessa Hughes, Kedranea' Addison, and Arleighshya McElroy.
Holding a 23-15 first quarter lead, Central outscored the Vikings by double-digits in each of the final three quarters to earn a decisivie 33 point victory. CMU recorded its best quarter in the third, as they outscored MVC, 26-11.
McElroy led the Central offense with a game-high 24 points in 32 minutes of action. She also dished out a game-high seven assists and tallied three rebounds, three steals, and a block.
Leianya Massenat and Addison finished the afternoon with 14 points each. Addision added six rebouds, four assists, three steals, and a block. Massenat recorded six assists, four rebounds, and four steals.
Daryna Bachkarova chipped in 11 points while Eternati Willock and Robin Beck each added 10.
Central's offense was outstanding from all areas of the floor. They shot 52.9-percent from the field, 38.9-percent from three, and 77.8-percent from the free throw line.
CMU had control of the boards from start to finish. They out rebounded Missouri Valley College, 41-28. Willock led the efforts on the glass, finishing the day with 10 rebounds to complete a double-double performance. Central's defense forced 22 Vikings' turnovers including 12 steals.
Central will turn its attention to the postseason as they will once again face Missouri Valley College in the quarterfinals of the Heart Conference Tournament Thursday, Feb. 24 at Puckett Field House.
