Olathe, Kan. - The No. 13 Central Methodist women's basketball team picked up its sixth consecutive win, knocking off MidAmerica Nazarene 77-66 Wednesday night in Olathe, Kan.
With the win, Central improves to 15-3 and 5-3 in the Heart. MNU drops to 7-8 and 4-3 in conference play. The Eagles also jump one spot in the Heart South Division standings to second place.
Central found themselves trailing by two at the end of the first quarter before a 23-15 second quarter effort put the Eagles up by six at the halftime break. CMU kept MNU at bay for a majority of the second half, stretching their lead to as many as 19 points en route to a double-digit victory.
Four of Central's five starters reached double figures, led by Arleighshya McElroy, who tallied 19 points along with six rebounds, and six assists. Daryna Bachkarova nearly recorded a double-double with 17 rebounds and eight rebounds, in addition to three assists, two blocks and a steal.
Junior center Eternati Willock had her best outing as an Eagle, scoring 16 points on 53-percent shooting from the floor. She also grabbed a game-high 17 rebounds, good enough for a double-double. Willock added three steals, two assists, and a block in 34 minutes of action.
Leianya Massenat rounded out the double-digit scorers for CMU with 12 points. Jaicia Canady recorded a game-high eight assists in 29 minutes off the bench.
CMU had excellent ball movement for the duration of the contest, as 25 of their 30 field goal makes were assisted. Central once again won the rebounding efforts, grabbing 49 boards compared to 41 for the Pioneers.
The Eagles conclude their two-game road trip against Mount Mercy on Saturday, Jan. 15 at 2:00 p.m. in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
