Bateseville, Ark. - The No. 11 Central Methodist women's basketball program posted a 2-0 record at the Lyon College Classic this past week in Batesville, Ark.
Central opened the Classic with a 65-59 victory over Rust College Thursday.
The duo of Daryna Bachkarova and Arleighshya McElroy each poured in 19 points, including four three-point baskets from McElroy and three three-point field goals from Bachkarova.
Leah Johnson tallied her third double-double of the season with 11 points and 15 rebounds. She also recorded a new-career high six blocks.
The Eagles were extremely efficient from beyond the arc and the charity stripe, knocking down eight threes for 36.4-percent and were nearly 93-percent from the free throw line.
Central's defense held Rust College to just 29.2-percent shooting from the field, forcing 11 turnovers.
CMU then earned a convincing 83-39 victory over LSU-Shreveport Saturday afternoon.
Four different Eagles reached double-figures, once again led by Bachkarova, who recorded 21 points along with four rebounds, three blocks, two steals, and an assist.
McElroy followed, scoring 17 points along with a team leading nine rebounds and seven assists. Leianya Massenat added 14 points while Jaicia Canady tallied 11.
Central won the rebounding battle by double-digits, grabbing 47 boards compared to 37 for the Pilots. The Eagles held LSU-Shreveport to under 25-percent shooting from both the field and beyond the arc.
CMU finished the afternoon shooting 46.2-percent from the floor and an impressive 40.7-percent from the three-point line. The Eagles were also a perfect 12-of-12 from the charity stripe.
Central will take its perfect 6-0 record to Lawrence, Kan., where they will face Haskell Indian Nations University Tuesday, Nov. 23 at 2:00 p.m.
