FAYETTE, Mo. – The No. 8-ranked Central Methodist University women's basketball team extended its winning streak to four with a 75-61 decision over (RV) MidAmerica Nazarene University in Puckett Field House on Wednesday evening.
Central trailed by as many of seven in the opening frame, but a 14-4 run by the Eagles gave the squad a three-point advantage at the conclusion of the quarter. The Eagles struggled through foul trouble in the second frame and entered halftime trailing by six. Central dominated in the second half, outscoring the Pioneers 47-27 in the second half of play.
Reigning Heart Player of the Week, Mercedes Jefflo (SR/Compton, Calif.), led all-scorers for the third consecutive game with a 27 point performance. She went a perfect 12-for-12 from the charity stripe and connected on seven shots from the floor. Jefflo also chipped in with five rebounds, four assists, three steals, and one block en route to the victory.
INSIDE THE BOX:
- Central shot 41.5 percent from the floor while holding the Pioneers to just 37 percent
- Teams were even on the boards with both securing 40 rebounds apiece, each pulling down 25 defensive and 15 offensive
- The Eagles forced 23 turnovers, converting 22 for points, and only surrendered 14 errors
- Teams were nearly even on second chance points, bench points, assists, and blocks
