FAYETTE, Mo. – The No. 24 Central Methodist University women's basketball team snapped a two-game losing streak on Wednesday night with a win over Culver-Stockton on their home court.
Culver jumped out to a five-point lead in the first two minutes of play, but a surging 14-3 offensive run put the Eagles (16-8, 12-6 Heart) ahead and gave them a lead that they would ride out to the end.
Mercedes Jefflo (JR/Compton, Calif.) guided the Eagles as one of three double-digit scorers, posting 27 points while adding eight rebounds, seven assists, four steals, and two blocks. Crimson Jones (JR/Flora, Ill.) followed with a 20 point, seven rebound finish while Tatiana Grant (SR/Milwaukee, Wis.) rounded out the top scorers with 18 points off the bench.
The Eagles shot an efficient 50 percent from the floor and boasted an 8-for-20 finish from beyond the arc, including seven treys in the second half. As a team, the squad forced the 'Cats to commit 23 turnovers while collecting nine steals.
Up next, Central Methodist will travel to Graceland University for a Saturday road contest. Tipoff is set for 2 pm in Lamoni, Iowa.
