FAYETTE, Mo. – The No. 23 Central Methodist University women's basketball team was firing on all cylinders as they shot their way to a 103-55 victory on Saturday afternoon.
The 48-point victory is the first time the squad as broken the 100-point bar this season, a feat that was last completed in January 2018 during a 127-80 win over Graceland.
A go-ahead basket from Crimson Jones (JR/Flora, Ill.) with two minutes gone in the first quarter put the Eagles ahead by one, giving them a lead they would hold through the remainder of play. As a team, CMU went 48.1 percent from the field and finished 12-for-34 from three-point land.
Central Methodist (14-6, 10-4 Heart) put on a defensive clinic in the game, forcing Peru State to commit 34 turnovers while holding them to a mere 18.2 percent from beyond the arc.
Fourteen Eagles touched the floor in the contest and all fourteen would score, led by Mercedes Jefflo (JR/Compton, Calif.) who posted 20 points. Jones added 13 points, followed by Tatiana Grant (SR/Milwaukee, Wis.) with 11 points and Cierra Stanciel (SR/Chicago, Ill.) with 10 points to round out the double-digit scorers. Lajanea Kimbrough (SR/Indianapolis, Ind.) led the team on the glass with six rebounds. Kassie Ybarra (JR/San Antonio, Tex.) and Zaria Jones (JR/Seattle, Wash.) both posted season-high scoring totals with eight points each.
