FAYETTE, Mo. - Central Methodist drained a season-high 16 3-pointers, including a combined 15 from Morgan Vetter and Taylor McDowell, and held Crowley's Ridge (Ark.) scoreless for the first 11:08 of the second half to come away with a 99-35 win Tuesday in the final non-conference game for the Eagles.�
Central Methodist (12-10) opened the contest on an 11-0 run in a 2:55 span. McDowell drained back-to-back treys as part of the spurt. The Eagles' lead was 16 points at the 13:21 mark following a Vetter bucket from deep. Crowley's Ridge (8-16) trailed 37-17 with 4:20 left on the clock in the first half and managed only four points down the stretch before intermission with the Green and Black holding a 51-21 edge.
Vetter tallied 18 of her game-high 27 points in the first 20 minutes, all from behind the arc. McDowell followed suit, scoring all 15 of her first-half points from distance.�
Central Methodist scored 26-straight points after halftime before the Pioneers' first bucket in the period, a Hannah Doty eight-foot jumper with 8:52 to play. The Eagles led by no less than 50 in the final 10:10 of the contest.
Vetter matched a season-high in points (27) Tuesday to go along with six rebounds, five assists and two steals. McDowell's 23 points on the night are her most in the last 18 games. Each player shot 50 percent from 3-point range, with Vetter going 8-of-16 and McDowell shooting 7-of-14. McDowell also came up with a career-high four steals, as the Eagles finished with 16.
DaJonee Hale added 12 points in the win. Jesse Ellis nearly posted a triple-double with 10 points, 10 rebounds, a game-high six assists and three steals. Taylor Cornelison had eight points and 10 rebounds. Four different Eagles scored four points.
Hanna Kirk finished with 13 points and eight rebounds for the Pioneers.�
Central Methodist outscored Crowley's Ridge, a NCCAA school, 34-8 in the paint and turned 26 Pioneer turnovers into 32 points. Coach James Arnold's squad outrebounded the visitors 61-25, including 28-8 on the offensive glass, leading to 26 second chance points. The Eagles also generated 28 fastbreak points and got 55 points from their reserves, led by Vetter's 27.
The Eagles shot 47.3 percent overall and totaled 25 assists on 35 made baskets while limiting Crowley's Ridge to just 25.5 percent (13-of-51) from the floor and 14.3 percent (2-of-14) from distance, including 0-of-9 after intermission. All 14 Central Methodist athletes on the active roster played at least seven minutes Tuesday.
