Kansas City, Mo. - Four members of the Central Methodist Men's Soccer program were tabbed as NAIA All-Americans by the national office Wednesday.
It marks the fifth-straight season the men's program has garnered at least four All-America selections. Representing CMU on this year's All-America teams were Jesse Bank, Tom Irion, Basil Erne and Stefano Campisi.
Bank, a graduate defender from Kruiningen, Netherlands, was named an NAIA Second Team All-American after earning Honorable Mention honors a season ago. In addition, Bank was tabbed a First Team All-American and an All Midwest Region selection by the United Soccer Coaches Association.
In 2022, Bank anchored Central's defensive backline to 10 shut out victories, while also scoring six goals and dishing out an assist. For his efforts in conference play, Bank was tabbed as the Heart Defensive Player of the Year and a Heart First Team All-Conference selection.
Returning to the All-America list for the second time in his career is junior defender Tom Irion. Irion earned NAIA Third Team All-America honors after landing on the first team as a freshman in 2020. The native of Stuttgart, Germany was also named to the All-America Second Team and All Midwest Region Team by the United Soccer Coaches Association.
In 2022, Irion appeared in 21 matches with 18 starts for Central, scoring four goals and dishing out two assists. He joined Bank on the defensive backline that allowed only a 0.72 goals against average. In addition, Irion was selected to the Heart All-Conference First Team for his play this season.
Erne earned Honorable Mention honors from the NAIA for the second consecutive season. He was also tabbed as a Second Team All-America selection and an All Midwest Region performer by the United Soccer Coaches Association in 2022.
Erne appeared and started in all 22 of Central's matches while playing multiple positions on the field. For his efforts in conference play, the native of Uetikon am See, Switzerland landed on the Heart All-Conference team for the second-straight season.
Campisi joins Erne as an Honorable Mention selection, earning national recognition for the first time in his career. Along with United Soccer Coaches All-Midwest Region honors, the Milano, Italy native earned Heart First Team All-Conference recognition for his play in conference action.
Campisi appeared in 21 matches with 15 starts for Central as a sophomore in 2022. He tallied a team leading 11 goals and tied for the team lead with six assists. He recorded multi-goal performances in two matches, one which led him to earning Heart Offensive Player of the Week honors on Oct. 3.
Central finished the year with a 16-1-5 overall record, including a 9-0-3 mark in conference play. Central won its fifth-straight Heart Regular Season Championship, fourth-straight Conference Tournament Titles, and qualified for its fifth-straight NAIA National Tournament.
