Columbia, Mo. - The No. 1 Central Methodist Men's Soccer team saw its season come to an end in the Second Round of the NAIA Men's Soccer National Championship Saturday afternoon.
The Eagles fell to No. 3 Rio Grande by a score of 1-0 on a chilly afternoon at Battle High School in Columbia, Mo. CMU finishes the year with a 16-1-5 overall record, while the Redstorm improve to 16-3-2 and advance to the Final Site in Decatur, Ala.
The lone goal of the match came in the 72nd minute from Rio's Charlie Chechlacz who was assisted by Gabriel Silva. Going against the wind in the second half, Central was unable to match Rio with the equalizer in the final 18 minutes of play.
CMU outshot Rio 11-8 and in shots on goal, 6-3. Senior Jayton Johnson led the way with four shots including three on goal. Fellow senior Mark Csongradi tallied two shots and one on goal.
Beer De Vos played all 90 minutes bewteen the posts, securing two saves in only his third loss of the year.
