Canton, Mo. - The No. 3 Central Methodist Men's Soccer program earned a 8-0 victory over Culver-Stockton College Saturday night in Canton, Mo.
With the win, Central improves to 11-0-4 and 8-0-2 in conference play. The Wildcats fall to 5-10-1 and 1-8-1 in the Heart.
An own goal by Culver-Stockton gave Central a 1-0 lead less than a minute into the opening half. CMU would add one more goal in the first half on a score from Alessandro Salvadego with the assist from Jayton Johnson in the 39th minute.
Leading 2-0 entering the second half, Central's offense scored six more times, making the final score 8-0 in favor of the Eagles. Two of those goals came in the opening two minutes of the second half, as Alessandro Lacerti scored his first goal of 2022 in the 46th minute, followed by a score from Filip Mang-Thang who was assisted by Johnson.
Liam Arthur pushed Central's lead to 5-0 in the 54th minute followed by a goal from Jesse Bank in the 68th minute. Jayton Johnson added the seventh goal of the match less than two minutes after Bank's. Bank put the finishing touches on the match in the 84th minute.
Overall Central tallied 28 total shots including 17 on goal, compared to just seven shots and five on goal for the Wildcats.
Cian Halpin, Arthur, and Jayton Johnson each fired off four shots including three on goal for both Johnson and Arthur. Johnson also matched his career best with three assists in the match. It is the first three-assist performance for the senior since his freshman campaign against Clarke on Oct. 13, 2019.
Bank also picked up his first career brace as an Eagle.
Central concludes its three-game road trip against Baker University Wednesday, Oct. 26 at 7:30 p.m. in Baldwin City, Kan.
