Macomb, Ill. - The No. 3 Central Methodist Men's soccer program concluded its three-match standing against NCAA Division I opponents with a 1-0 victory over Western Illinois Thursday night in Macomb, Ill.
The Eagles improve to 1-0-1 on the early season, while the Leathernecks fall to 0-1.
Central's offense controlled the pace of the game from start to finish, tallying 16 total shots compared to WIU's five. Despite the heavy offensive push by the Eagles, the score remained deadlocked at 0-0 heading into the halftime break.
Central cracked the scoreboard in the 76th minute of play, as sophomore Jeremiah Johnson scored off the assist from Mark Csongradi.
That proved to be the final score as Central held on for a solid 1-0 victory.
Guilherme Pereira and Kevin Rivera led the charge for the Eagles, as each tallied three shots, including three shots on goal from Pereira. The duo of Filip Mang-Thang and Csongradi recorded two shots, while Csongradi picked up an assist.
