CMU falls in road contest at Peru State

Peru, Neb. - The Central Methodist University football team fell to Peru State College by a score of 30-17 Saturday afternoon in Peru, Neb.

The Eagles fall to 2-1 overall, while the Bobcats improve to 1-1.

The Eagles jumped out in front on a 48-yard field goal from Samuel Petrin at the 7:55 mark of the first quarter. The next scoring drive came with a little over two minutes remaining in the half, as the Bobcats matched CMU with a 23-yard field goal to tie the game at 3-3.

Central Methodist responded almost instantly with a 37-yard touchdown pass from Jalen Brown to Katavious Taylor. The touchdown came in just 26 seconds of game action, and the Eagles took a 10-3 lead over the Bobcats heading into halftime.

The Bobcats came out with renewed energy in the third quarter, scoring two touchdowns to take a 17-10 lead over CMU. After an interception gave Peru State the ball inside the CMU 10-yard line, the Bobcats tied the game on a four-yard touchdown pass, making the score 10-10 with 12:38 remaining in the third. Less than six minutes later, Peru State took a 17-10 lead with its second touchdown pass of the afternoon. Central Methodist entered the fourth quarter trailing by a touchdown.

Peru State extended its lead with two more scores in the final frame, taking a 30-10 lead. The Eagles continued to battle back, as Brown found Taylor once again in the endzone for an 18-yard touchdown reception, trimming the deficit to 30-17 with 1:37 left in the game. However, the Eagles fell short of the comeback, falling by a score of 30-17.

Brown completed 23-of-42 passes for 259 yards and two touchdowns. Taylor had another solid outing, recording seven receptions for 141 yards and two scores, including a 37-yard touchdown catch right before halftime. Carelle Hill also pulled in eight catches for 34 yards.
