Fayette, Mo. - David Calloway announced that he would be stepping down as the Head Football Coach of Central Methodist University effective immediately. Calloway has been with the program for the last eight seasons, with the last seven coming as the head coach.
"Coach David Calloway informed us of his decision to resign as head coach of our football team," stated Director of Athletics, Jeff Sherman. "We appreciate the time and effort Coach Cal has put into our football program. He is a man of high values, ethics and character and is loved and respected within our football program and campus community. We wish David nothing but the best in his future endeavors."
In seven seasons with the program, Calloway compiled a 28-46-1 overall record. In 2021, Calloway led Central to their first conference championship since 1975 with a 9-3 overall record and a perfect 5-0 mark in Heart South Division play.
The nine wins tied for the most victories in school history. As the Heart South Division Champion, the Eagles also clinched their first-ever berth into the NAIA-FCS playoffs.
Fifty-five Eagles have been named All-Conference under Calloway's direction, and three players have earned NAIA All-American honors.
A search is currently underway to find the next head coach for the Central Methodist University football team, Sherman said. The University plans to move swiftly and expects this to be a popular destination for potential candidates.
