Six Eagles Earn Heart South All-Conference Honors

Six Eagles Earn Heart South All-Conference Honors

Kansas City, Mo. - Six members of the Central Methodist Football program were recognized as Heart South All-Conference performers for their play in 2022. 

Linebacker Davion Stockard and defensive back Erik Mays were named to the First Team, while linebacker Lontas Mcclinton earned second team honors. 

Senior offensive lineman Trenton Byers earned Honorable Mention honors, as did KeShawn Wilson and Le'Marcus Washington

Stockard, a senior from St. Louis, Mo. appeared and started all 11 game at middle linebacker. He led the team and the Heart with 117 total tackles, averaging more than 10 tackles/game.

Stockard forced six fumbles in 2022 which led the nation, and returned one for a touchdown against Culver-Stockton on Sept. 24. He also recorded 3.5 sacks and broke up five passes. 

For his efforts against MidAmerica Nazarene on Homecoming weekend, Stockard was named the Heart Defensive Player of the Week after recording a game-high 17 tackles, a forced fumble, and three pass breakups. 

Mays, a senior from nearby Marshall, Mo. appeared in all 11 games for CMU this Fall. He compiled 42 total tackles and tied for the team lead with four interceptions. He also added three pass breakups and recorded a blocked field goal at Graceland on Sept. 17. 

Mcclinton made 10 appearances and finished second on the team with 107 total tackles in his sophomore campaign. In addition, Mcclinton was named the Heart Defensive Player of the Week after recording 13 tackles against William Penn on Oct. 1. He also picked up a fumble recovery and returned it 64-yards for a touchdown.

Byers earned Honorable Mention honors after landing on the Second Team as a junior in 2022. The senior right guard from Pierce City, Mo. appeared in all 11 games for CMU, serving as an anchor to the offensive line. 

Wilson appeared in 10 games in his first season with Central as a defensive back. The native of Adelanto, Calif. tallied 33 tackles including one tackle for loss. He matched Mays with a team-high four interceptions and recorded three pass breakups. In addition, Wilson picked up a fumble recovery and an interception against Culver-Stockton on Sept. 24. 

Washington earned Honorable Mention honors after landing on the Second Team a season ago. He made 10 appearances on the defensive line, registering 37 total tackles including 6.5 tackles for loss. Washington also led the team with four sacks and blocked a field goal in CMU's 14-9 victory over Missouri Valley College on Oct. 29.
