Oskaloosa, Iowa - The Central Methodist Football program fell in a defensive stalemate to William Penn University 9-6 Saturday afternoon in Oskaloosa, Iowa.
The Eagles fall to 0-6, while the Statesmen improve to 2-3 overall.
After a scoreless first quarter, Central jumped out in front in the second after a sack followed by a fumble was recovered by Lontas Mcclintion for a 64-yard touchdown with the less than a minute to go until halftime.
The Eagles would enter the halftime break with a 6-0 lead.
William Penn would score midway through the third quarter on a 19-yard scamper from Destynd Loring to tie the game at 6-6. However, the PAT was blocked and the scored would remain deadlocked.
The Statesmen took the lead at the 4:12 mark of the third quarter on a 31-yard field goal. Both teams would exchange scoreless possessions through the rest of the third and fourth quarters.
Central had a final scoring opportunity with just seconds remaining in the fourth quarter, but were unable to reach the endzone as the Statesmen held on for a narrow 9-6 win.
Mcclintion led the defense with 13 tackles including the 64-yard fumble return for touchdown in the second. He also recorded one pass breakup. Davion Stockard and Le'Marcus Washington recorded nine tackles each including a half sack for Stockard and 1.5 sacks for Washington. The duo also forced two fumbles.
Kyjuan Collins and KeShawn Wilson tallied one interception in the game.
Central begins Heart South Division play when they host MidAmerica Nazarene University Saturday, Oct. 8 at 1:00 p.m. as part of Homecoming weekend.
