Central falls in season opener to No. 5 Grand View

Des Moines, Iowa - The Central Methodist football program fell in its season opener to No. 5 nationally ranked Grand View by a score of 37-10 Saturday afternoon in Des Moines, Iowa. 

The Vikings jumped out in front early in the first quarter with a rushing touchdown from two yards out. Grand View added to its lead in the opening moments of the second quarter on a 54-yard touchdown pass, pushing the advantage to 14-0. 

Central trimmed the deficit on the following possession, driving 68 yards in 12 plays to set up Samuel Petrin with a 32-yard field goal attempt, which he converted. 

The Vikings would score 10 more points before halftime, taking a 30-3 lead at the break. Central scored its first touchdown of the game courtesy of Armand Keely who scampered in from 23-yards out, trimming the deficit to 30-10 with 6:45 remaining. However, Grand View would extend its lead with a four yard rushing touchdown, making the final score 37-10 in favor of the Vikings. 

Jalen Brown led the rushing attack, finishing the afternoon with 43 yards on seven attempts. Shawn Simmons rushed for 41 yards. Koale Schroeder led the CMU recievers with 60 yards on two catches, including a long of 43-yards. 

Senior defensive back Erik Mays recorded nine tackles including three solo, while Anthony Hernandez collected six. 

The Eagles will next host Peru State College Saturday, Sept. 4 at 1:00 p.m. at Davis Field in the home opener.
