Football Falls to Evangel on Homecoming

FAYETTE, MO. - The Central Methodist football team fell at home 41-28 Saturday afternoon to Evangel University during homecoming weekend.

NOTES
• The Eagles dropped to 1-6 on the year, as the Crusaders are 4-3 for the season.
• Central Methodist outscored Evangel in the second quarter 14-7.

STANDOUT PERFORMERS

• Leading Central Methodist in receiving was Garan Evans (JR/Cape Girardeau, Mo.), catching three passes for a total of 85 yards with one touchdown.
Shadrach Alexander (SO/Port St. Lucie, Fla.) led Central Methodist in rushing with 10 carries for 54 yards.
• On the defensive side of the ball, Erik Mays (FR/Marshall, Mo.), Quindon Brown (SR/Greenwood, Miss.), and Collin O'Connell (SR/Fayette, Mo.) gathered a total of 30 tackles in today's game splitting 10 each.
Zeke Kuyawa was 10-12 on completions gathering 3 touchdown passes and throwing for 132 yards today for Evangel.

• Brady Collier led the Crusaders in receiving with two touchdowns on four catches for a total of 45 yards.

• Josh Evans led the Crusader defense with 9 total tackles.

HOW IT HAPPENED
•In the first quarter, Evangel scored on its first drive of the game with a one-yard carry from Grelle. The PAT was good making the score 7-0.
• Evangel got the ball back early from an interception on the Central Methodist opening drive. The Kuyawa connected with Collier for a 10-yard touchdown for a 14-0 Crusader lead.

Central Methodist answered back in the first quarter, as Bedford connected with Gardner on a 49-yard completion, scoring the first touchdown for the Eagles, O'Connell kicked the PAT through the uprights for a 14-7 scoreline.

With 40 seconds remaining in the first quarter, Evangel kept the ball on the grounding scoring a touchdown with a 1-yard carry from Lee, however the PAT was wide right to make the score 20-7.

• Entering the second quarter, Riley from Evangel scored on a three-yard carry for a 27-7 lead.

• Central Methodist on the next possession scored on a long pass from Bedford connecting with Evans in the back of the end zone. Evans made an unbelievable one-handed grab for the score, and the Eagles trailed 27-14 after another successful PAT from O'Connell.

• Before halftime, Central Methodist scored on a five-yard pass from Bedford to Hulsey, making it a one score ball game 27-21.

• Ten minutes into the third quarter, Kuyaya hit Hester on deep pass for a Crusaders touchdown, with the succesful PAT, Evangel led 34-21.

• With two minutes remaining in the third quarter, Central Methodist kept the ball on the ground with a two-yard run from Brice to make the score 34-28.

• In the closing seconds of the third quarter, Evangel put the ball in the air with a pass from Kuyaya to Collier for a 26-yard touchdown pass making it a 41-28 going into the fourth quarter.

• Both teams were held scoreless in the final 15 minuts, as Evangel took the 41-28 victory.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• The Eagles led in total offensive yards with 438, as the Crusaders were allowed 341 yards on the day.
• The Eagles led in passing yards with 341, while the Crusaders only threw for 132.

• The Crusaders held the advantage on the ground with 209 yards, and the Eagles finished with 91.

• The Eagles will return to action, Saturday, October 21st, when they travel to Missouri Valley College in Marshal, Mo. The game is scheduled to start at 1:30 p.m.
