Benedictine Bursts Past Eagles

Benedictine Bursts Past Eagles

Atchison, Kan. – The 18th ranked Benedictine College Ravens struck early and often on Saturday afternoon, in their 50-27 victory over the Central Methodist University Eagles in Atchison, Kansas.

With the loss, Central Methodist University falls to 1-5 on the season, while the 18th ranked Ravens improve to 4-2 overall.

Benedictine College flexed their muscles early and often against a young Central squad on Saturday. The Ravens put together a six play drive that accumulated 68 yards in just under three minutes in their first possession to put points on the board. Tyler Henness rushed for a 45 yard touchdown, and the Ravens would never look back.

The Ravens would add two more touchdowns on their next two drives, before Central could get on the board. Eagles' quarterback Caleb Bedford (JR/Houston, Tex.) hooked up with Adam Weiland (SR/Sullivan, Mo.) on a 76 yard pass and catch to end the first quarter, to put the Eagles down 20-6.

Benedictine opened the second quarter, with a 13 play drive, that went for 64 yards and ended with another touchdown to put BC up 26-6, just a few minutes into the second quarter. The Ravens added another touchdown following an 18 play drive with under a minute to go before halftime. And to make things worse, the Ravens blocked a field goal attempt by Raul Palacios (SO/Milan, Mo.) as time expired in the first half, to take a 33-6 lead into halftime.

In the second half, Caleb Bedford found Adam Weiland for a 57 yard touchdown pass, a 45 yard touchdown pass to Dillon Britt (SR/Kearney, Mo.), and a 4 yard touchdown pass to Keenan Honore (SR/Anchorage, Alaska). However, in the end CMU would fall 50-27.

Caleb Bedford finished 19-for-40 under center, with 406 yards passing and four passing touchdowns. He also ran the ball 21 times and was sacked six times by the Ravens defense. Adam Weiland led all receivers with four catches for 187 yards and two touchdowns. Keenan Honore finished with six receptions for 115 yards and a score.

Following the bye week, the Eagles will return to Davis Field on Saturday October 15th, to host their rivals; Missouri Valley College. The game is scheduled for an 11am kickoff, and can be seen live on ESPN3.
