Marshall, Mo. The Central Methodist University Eagles football team failed to convert on a late two-point conversion, which would have tied the game on Saturday afternoon. Instead, the Eagles fell 35-33 at the hands of their rivals the Missouri Valley College Vikings in their first divisional matchup of the season.

With the loss, Central Methodist falls to 2-5 overall and 0-1 in the South Division of The Heart. With the victory, Missouri Valley improves to 4-3 overall and 1-0 in the South Division.

Central Methodist struck first on Saturday, just 15 seconds into the ballgame; when Brandon Justin returned a 47 yard interception for a touchdown. Missouri Valley would then strike for three touchdowns to take a 21-7 lead after one quarter of play.

The Eagles turned it into another gear in the second quarter, striking for two scores to tie the game at 21 going into halftime. CMU got their second score on the day on a 10 yard pass from Caleb Bedford to John Fuller. Then with a little over a minute until halftime, Kyle Livingston returned an interception for 16 yards to even the score at 21.

The Vikings were the only team to find the end zone in the third quarter to make the score 28-21. In the fourth quarter, MVC kept at it with another touchdown to extend their lead to 14.

Central Methodist did all they could to get back into the game. The Eagles received a one yard rushing touchdown from Edward Bernard with 5:20 left in the game, but had a costly miss on the PAT.

Then just minutes later, Caleb Bedford hooked up with Jamall Williams for a 49 yard touchdown pass. Bedford failed to run in the two-point conversion and the Eagles would fall by two points in their first division game of the season.

The Eagles return home this coming Saturday October 24th, for homecoming against Evangel University. Kickoff from Davis Field is scheduled for 1pm.
