2014 Academic All-America College Division Football Team
FAYETTE, Mo. - Central Methodist senior linebacker�Luke Mayer�has been named to the 2014 Capital One Academic All-America � Football first team for the College Division.
Mayer sports a 3.90 G.P.A. in Biology.�The Sullivan, Mo., native has been on the Dean's List for six semesters and has won the Poage Award, Founder's Award and Excellence in Organic Chemistry award. Mayer is a member of the Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society and Omicron Kappa Delta Honor Society.
On the field, Mayer totaled 32 tackles, one tackle for loss and four passes defended in nine games this season. He ends his four-year Eagles' career with 70 tackles, four tackles for loss and eight pass breakups.
The teams, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America, have been released to recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. �
The Capital One Academic All-America� College Division football team includes student-athletes from�NAIA, Canadian and two-year institutions.
To be eligible for Academic All-America� consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director. Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 20,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports.
Capital One has been the entitlement rights holder to CoSIDA's Academic All-America teams programs since 2011.
The Academic All-District � teams are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. �This is the second year of the expanded Academic All-America� program as CoSIDA moved from recognizing a University Division �(Division I) and a College Division �(all non Division I) and has doubled the number of scholar-athletes honored. The expanded teams include NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II and NCAA Division III participants, while the College Division team combines NAIA, Canadian and two-year schools.�
