FAYETTE, Mo. - Central Methodist moved one step closer to full pads Thursday with another fast-paced workout that focused on fundamental instruction, conditioning and growing the team's new offensive and defensive playbooks.
Coach Jody Ford directed the two and a half hour session held at Davis Field. Afterward, the coach said the team showed more improvement from its initial workout and is learning the tempo and concentration Ford's staff wants.
"I loved what I saw. I think the guys came out today and were really intentional," Ford said. "I saw guys running to the ball and I thought we did a good job of getting plays run. We probably ran double the amount (of plays) than we did Tuesday.
"These guys are starting to understand what our goal is each practice. That's winning the day. If we accomplish that for the next 12 practices, we'll like where we're headed entering the summer," Ford added.
Finding Playmakers
One priority this spring for Ford's staff is to identify as many playmakers as possible before the Black and White Spring Game on Saturday, April 26, at 3 p.m. CT. Several players are stepping forward, though the head coach wouldn't single out individuals.
"I'm seeing some playmakers, both offensively and defensively, but I'm not ready to start naming names just yet," Ford said. "But yes, I'm seeing guys that can make make plays and are starting to do some things to separate themselves."
Upcoming Practice Schedule
After three off days, the Eagles will don full gear for the first time this spring during a Monday afternoon workout.
"We'll put in some things Monday and get the guys use to hitting one another," Ford said.
