No. 20 Eagles Sweep Briar Cliff

ASHLAND, Mo. – The No. 20-ranked Central Methodist University baseball program closed out its four-game series against Briar Cliff (Iowa) University with a sweep on Saturday afternoon.

GAME ONE (W 6-3)

Briar Cliff tacked on one unearned run in the fifth but the Eagles responded with a run to match after Ryan McGorrian (JR/Algonquin, Ill.) singled to deep right-center, plating one.

Three unanswered runs in the bottom of the sixth closed out the victory with RBI singles from Z Westley (SR/Midland, Mich.), Sergio Macias (SR/Laredo, Tex.), and Devon Garcia (SR/Bowling Green, Ohio).

Mason Schwellenbach (SR/Saginaw, Mich.) earned the win on the mound after tossing seven innings. He scattered four hits and surrendered two earned run while striking out seven batters.

Briar Cliff tacked on another in the fourth, but McDonald came through again for Central after using a single to shallow right-center to plate a pair of runs.

A sacrifice fly from Max McCay (SR/Carlisle, Iowa) scored an awaiting Raul Cosme (JR/Toa Alta, PR) in the bottom of the sixth. Briar Cliff notched one run in the final frame, but solid pitching from Macias snuffed out the comeback attempt.
