CMU Completes Sweep over Vikings Sunday Afternoon in Marshall

Marshall, Mo. — The Central Methodist baseball team completed a dominant weekend on Sunday, sweeping a doubleheader from Missouri Valley to finish off a four-game series sweep in Marshall, Missouri.

The Eagles improve to 20-11 overall and 9-3 in conference play, while Missouri Valley drops to 2-28 overall and 2-10 in conference action.

Game 1: Central Methodist 12 - Missouri Valley 9

In the opener, Central Methodist used a big second inning and timely late insurance to hold off Missouri Valley for a 12-9 victory.

After falling behind 3-2 in the first, the Eagles responded with a five-run second inning highlighted by a three-run home run from Zeb Wede to take control. CMU added two more runs in the fourth to build a 9-3 advantage before the Vikings battled back.

MVC closed within one at 10-9 with a three-run sixth inning, but the Eagles answered in the seventh. Jack Prewett delivered a two-run single to provide crucial breathing room.

Wede led the offense with four RBI, while Dariel Rios added three hits and two RBI. Gavin Whitehurst also drove in two runs.

On the mound, Vince Ray earned the win in relief, and Jeremy Yanow picked up the save to secure the opener.

Game 2: Central Methodist 14 - Missouri Valley 8

In the nightcap, the Eagles again showed resilience, overcoming an early 3-0 deficit to complete the sweep with a 14-8 win.

After scoring once in the second, CMU broke the game open with a four-run third inning, capped by another home run from Wede. The Eagles then erupted for five runs in the fifth to take firm control at 10-4.

Central added four more runs in the seventh, highlighted by a two-run double from Landon McKillip and a two-RBI hit from Dawson Foster.

Wede homered for the second straight game, while McKillip drove in three runs. Simon "JJ" Yoakum IV added three RBI, and Whitehurst contributed two more.

Whitehurst also earned the win on the mound, tossing four innings, while the bullpen helped limit damage late.

With the sweep, Central Methodist not only secured all four games in the weekend series but continued its sustained success against Missouri Valley. CMU has now won 15 consecutive matchups over the Vikings dating back to the 2023 season.
