Eagles compete in Friday meet in Columbia

Columbia, Mo. - The Central Methodist men's and women's cross country teams competed in the Columbia College Invite Friday afternoon at the Gans Creek Cross Country Course in Columbia, Mo. The men finished in third place out of four teams, while the women picked up a second-place finish out of three teams. 

The meet featured 65 combined runners from four schools including; CMU, Evangel, Park, and host school Columbia College. 

Senior Lisa Sauter had another strong outing on the course, as the Schefflenz, Germany native placed second out of 26 runners in a time of 19:28.99. Teammate Madeline Wiesman also posted a Top-10 finish, running the 5K in 20:29.51, good enough for ninth place. 

Katherine Bangert nearly missed out on a Top-10 placing, finishing 12th in a time of 21:15.33. Sarah King, Savannah Lingle, and Lilian Patterson rounded out the final three runners for the Eagles on the women's side. 

For the men, senior Radovan Kemboi continues to run well in his final season of competition, placing third on the men's side in a time of 26:17.26. Kemboi recorded the second-fastest time of any runner from the Heart of America Athletic Conference. Exavier Coburn, Zy'Shonne Cowans, and Corwyn Gentry all finished the race within 18 seconds of each other, posting 18th, 20th, and 22nd finished respectively. Matthew Barker, Tyler Reinkemeyer, Tyler Perkins, Jack Schiffhauer, Elliot Reed, Kaleb Bramman, Tyler Wilson, and Gage Sublette also competed for the Eagles in the 8K. 

Jado O'Donnell of Columbia College won the individual title with a time of 19:24.41. The Columbia College women also claimed the team championship with 20 points. On the men's side, Evangel's Shane Burns placed first in a time of 25:38.11. The Crusaders won the team title with 38 points, while Columbia College was just one point behind with 39. 

The Eagles will next compete in the Heart of America Athletic Conference Championships Saturday, Nov. 7 hosted by Baker University in Baldwin City, Kan.
