WINFIELD, Kan. - Central Methodist finished sixth at the NAIA Mid-States Classic Saturday, led by a personal best performance from junior Hailey Breusch.

Breusch crossed the line as the top Eagle finisher and 11th overall with a time of 18:14.71. Sophomore Emily Nealley and freshman Megan Greener finished 2-3 for Central Methodist with times of 18:27.81 and 18:41.62, respectively. Seniors Adriana Romero (18:51.05, 31st overall) and Elise Schreiber (19:44.07, 72nd overall) rounded out the Eagle scorers.

"It went pretty good," said head coach Chris Sandefur. "To put three girls in the top 23 was pretty impressive."

Sandefur highlighted Breusch's and Romero's performances, describing both as "big PRs (personal records.)." He also complimented freshman Rachel Howieson on her run. Howieson cracked the 21-minute barrier for the first time in her career, finishing 134th overall.

The Eagles finished second among Heart of America Athletic Conference (HAAC) teams behind Baker (Kan.). The result marked the third time this season the team has fallen to the Wildcats, but there is reason to be confident heading into the conference meet in two weeks.

"We did close the gap on Baker," Sandefur said.

The HAAC championship meet will be hosted by Missouri Valley on November 9. The Eagles are aiming for their third-straight conference title.
